Kids! Come make the BIGGEST bubbles of your lives -- FREE -- with GRANDPOP BUBBLES™! The Chapel Church (www.thechapelchurch.com) will sponsor GRANDPOP BUBBLES™ and his amazing "Bubble Festival," all the way from Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. .............................. ~~ Bounce Houses ~~ Games ~~ Special appearance by “Ramses” the official UNC mascot ~~ Food Trucks ~~ Baconessence ~~ Maple View Ice cream ~~ Live Music ~~ Face painting .......................... Grandpop Bubbles will bring his bubble wands, poles, basins, buckets, and 90 Gallons of SPECIAL BUBBLE JUICE for as many as possible to enjoy bubbling with #GPOPB. You'll share Grandpop Bubbles' bubble juice and 4' bubble wands and his 3' bubble "Tristrings" (two sticks and strings) to make bubbles. He guarantees that you will make the BIGGEST bubbles of your life -- whatever your age. All will be amazed by the giant bubbles from Grandpop Bubbles' 10', 16’, and now 20’ poles. Bubbles can be 10', 20', 30', and even longer! Some adults may want to try. ..................... There will be so many things for the kids and kids-at-heart to do... ~~ Make BUBBLES and BUBBLE RAINBOWS! ~~ Try to escape the GHOST OF BLOB. ~~ Run away from Bubble GHOSTS, DRAGONS, WHALES, and DINOSAURS! ~~ Pop all the cars of a BUBBLE TRAIN if you can reach them! ~~ Hit the floor with DANCING BUBBLES! ~~ Rain goes through my bubbles, so I will be there unless co-sponsor must cancel event. ~~ Weather forecasts won't tell you, but Grandpop Bubbles predicts that the weather phenomenon he calls the BUBBLE BLIZZARD may occur... (about every half hour). Poppers will freak out! ----------------- Parents will supervise their kids as they make bubbles and bring goggles if desired. Bubble at your own risk. A few KINDNESSES are in order, so teach your children the following before coming and while bubbling... 1. BORROW wands and tristrings and SHARE when the time comes... Children are welcome to bring their wands and blowers or use Grandpop Bubbles' wands and tristrings. 2. Teach kids to RESIST the temptation to STIR the mix. Stirring makes lots of FROTH. FROTH in the mix is BAD for bubbles. Rather, just press the wand to the bottom of the bucket and slide out slowly, sideways is best. 3. We like "POPPERS," but when someone asks you to NOT pop their bubbles, please respect that. Grandpop Bubbles will make enough bubbles for everyone to pop. Only pop bubbles with FINGERS or NOSES. No swinging or throwing stuff, OK? (if we do not follow that request it gets crazy.) 4. You might consider letting the really GIANT Bubbles Live, to enjoy the way they shape-shift. (a.) - If the bubble is smaller than you then go ahead and POP IT! (b.) - If it is bigger than you, then you might want to LET IT LIVE so people can admire the beauty! (c.) - Then, instead of popping the giant bubbles, try to get under them, then BLOW PUFFS of air into them to make little bubbles inside the big bubbles. It's more fun than popping and it lets the giant bubbles live longer so we can enjoy their shapes and colors. 5. RESPECT the equipment you borrow, please. Keep in the area and do not carry while popping any bubbles. Never leave the wands or tristrings on the ground where they get broken and dirty, but return to the cart or bucket home or hand them to a volunteer. ------------------------------------ Grandpop Bubbles enjoys bubbling after a rain or in a drizzle -- perfect conditions: bigger bubbles, and more colorful! Bubbling will go on if at all possible, however, Chapel Hill Baptist will be calling the shots concerning weather. ------------------------------------ Bubbly regards, Pastor Brandon Joyner, [email protected] and Brian Maloney, [email protected] www.facebook.com/GrandpopBubbles Bubble Hotline: 929-BUBBLE-ME (929-282-2536)

His latest album, titled O Lightnin’ Where Art Thou?, displays his range as never before as he plays and sings his way through songs from early country and bluegrass to blues, gospel, and old time mountain music. Born in West Virginia and largely raised in North Carolina, Lightnin’ was smitten early by the famed WWVA Jamboree radio show out of Wheeling, West Virginia. When his family moved to the Chapel Hill, North Carolina area, he discovered a rich vein of piedmont blues and old time music as well. On this episode of Across the Blue Ridge, we hear selections from the new album, plus an interview and songs from his 2016 appearance at Muddy Creek Music Hall in Winston-Salem, NC. Also on the show, a selection of classic cuts from the three most significant bands in the early history of bluegrass music: Bill Monroe & His Blue Grass Boys; The Stanley Brothers; and Flatt & Scruggs & The Foggy Mountain Boys. Float Like A Buffalo Examining existence, love, and even the mountains of Colorado. ‘Back From Nowhere,’ Alt-Funk-Ska-Rock septet Float Like A Buffalo’s first full length album reaches far into the places that have so wildly shaped it’s members and brings back a fun loving and raw sound that the band refuses to apologize for.   The groups roots stem from the state of Colorado. This theme is repeatedly called to throughout the album as the mythical ‘nowhere,’ ‘the place where I became a man’ and many more. Frontman, Cory Pearman and Percussionist, Garrett Achten formed the original incarnation of the band in Littleton, CO early in 2014. Later bringing aboard Bassist, Jason Clukies and Lead Guitarist, Evan Crabdree. After several rotating members, nearly two years later, the addition of Drummer, Phil Pleckham solidified the lineup for the time being. After enjoying local success for nearly a year and a half, the group then added Cory ‘Beef’ Meier (Trombone) and Luke Story (Saxophone, Trumpet) in early 2017, finalizing their lineup just as the recording process started for their rookie album.  Over a year in the making, ‘Back From Nowhere’ lays bare its songwriting and musicality in front of all else. Boasting a clean sound where nothing is hidden, each track guiding the listener through the concept of nowhere. “I think we all wanted to create something that could be listened to casually, but would encourage you to listen to the different layers.” Says Phil Pleckham, Drummer. “There’s a ton more going on the more you listen to it.” True to the test, the seven-piece band prompts solos from nearly every performer over the ten tracks and showcases the full sound the group’s live sets are known for.  An abrupt start and the words “I’m on the road to nowhere” immediately hammer home the ride you’re about to embark on through track, ‘Lil Ol’ You.’ The uptempo but surprisingly groove oriented tune “is about feeling lost on a journey and outside yourself.” Says lead singer Cory Pearman. “And realizing you don’t know yourself anymore.” The songs lyrics “You messed up” and “You brought up everything you ever thought up” make you question if the subject of the song is calling out someone specific, or their self.  ‘Finding Somewhere’ (the albums first single) carries this notion while throwing you through the depths of existence and dropping the tempo. Asking to remember the times back when, losing your mind and constantly emphasizing that you are “Doing just fine.” This emotional call to find one’s self drives the horns and screaming guitar behind to totally immerse the listener; As if living someone else’s storyline.  “Recording guitar will point out all of your flaws in a millisecond.” Remarked Lead Guitarist, Evan Crabdree on the recording process of the album. The Spot Studios served as a home base for the group for nearly a year and a half while tracking and mixing. Run by Denver recording giants Rich Veltrop and Glenn Sawyer, the duo not only served as engineers but producers and even backup vocalists when needed. “I always had butterflies and nerves,” remembered Jason Clukies, Bassist. “Playing in front of a thousand people is one thing, but being under the microscope in front of them is totally different.”  The second single ’She Don’t Care’ is a powerhouse of intensity.  Funk-driven bass and guitar give way to a story of lust that is met with a slap in the face. Inviting the talents of Lizzy Gogolowski (We Are Madeleine and Diamond Empire Band) and Gabriel Mervine (The Motet and Gabriel Mervine Quartet), the seven-piece band ups the count to nine for this dance driven groove.  The music video, shot by Connor Tieulie, tells this story perfectly; set in a bar, as most stories of funk and lust are. “My favorite moment was filming the group dance sequence in the alley,” Says Trombone player Cory Meier while joking about being better than the Backstreet Boys. “The reaction shots [in the video] are all genuine responses to our over the top antics.”  Since finishing the band has taken on several high visibility appearances. Most noticeably at the historic Bluebird Theatre of Denver and winning a nomination for “Best Funk Band” in Denver through local culture, in-the-know publication ‘Westword.’ But progress doesn’t stop here. With plans to drop ‘Back From Nowhere’ in January 2019, a national tour and their sophomore album already in the back of their minds, this unstoppable seven-piece unit leaves you with an assurance that they will be looking to the road ahead, and enjoying this ride.
